Sweater: J.Crew | Tunic: S.I.C. Couture | Shorts: S.I.C. Couture | Clutch: J.Crew | Shoes: Steve Madden, old (love these) | Necklace: Jewelmint, old (but this would look amazing)

Classic pieces is something that every woman should have in her closet. I'm breaking them down in a few blog posts. First up, your transition pieces from summer to fall. Last week in Texas we had a rare cool day in August....it was low 80's and it felt amazing! Weather is such a tease in Texas at times. Such a bitch!

So, of course, I had to dress the part even though I still wear sweaters in the summer but this day I didn't have to remove from sweating my ass off. Many know that I don't focus on trends much and I like my pieces to be versatile. Starting out with basic black pieces: black sweater, black shorts, and black booties (black magic...just kidding!) Seriously, you can't go wrong with these 3 pieces and you probably have at least one of them in your closet right now. I love a good outfit with some tailored shorts and blazer (that'll be coming soon, gets me weak in the knees)! These shorts I have on are perfect for that polished look. They're not too short and not tight at the legs and they flow easily from summer to fall.

Tip: Add a tunic underneath the sweater so you can chop up the look a bit, so it's not an all black outfit.

What is your must have classic piece?
