Saturday finds, reads, and everything in between - Season 1 Vol. 4

Hello! and Happy Earth Week… and month. This week has been sort of crazy, I will get in detail with that next week. I want this Saturday finds to be all dedicated to Earth Month. So whether you are a recycler in plastics, paper, or aluminum, etc or if you are a thrifter or you are on a path of sustainability then this weeks finds are fo you!

Let’s get to it!!

LISTEN

  1. Business of Fashion - Stella McCartney on the Business of Sustainable Design - This is a great episode to listen to if you are a person who loves fashion but also wants to be conscious about the overall consumption and sustainability part of the fashion industry. I feel what she is engineering and pushing is what brands need to advocate and adopt into their design process and overall mission as brands.

WATCH

  1. The Year the Earth Changed - This is an extraordinary film about earth. It was filmed during our time in lockdown and it documents how things changed on our earth from pollution to wildlife. This film shows us how we as humans can heal our earth with some changes for the better. Now do I think going through a global pandemic where millions of people have died or have suffered is ok just to see a change in our earth is fundamentally right? Gosh, that’s tough; but, In theory no it’s not, I don’t want anyone to suffer but maybe, just a thought, it’s sign for us to slow down and appreciate the beauty of our earth. Seeing simple as healing, not feeling rushed or driven to live to work. Our weather is changing dramatically and climate change is real due to our pollution in our oceans, land and air. We don’t have an option B, this is our only option right now, Planet Earth, and this is our future for our children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren and so on. It really shows how humans have overtaken certain habitats in the world. It’s an interesting film and I encourage you to watch. This is on AppleTV just fyi.

  1. 4 Sustainable Fashion Brands You Need To Know - If you are looking for a sustainable brands, check out this article that features 4 brands paving the way with zero waste fabrics to biodegradable packaging to functional and timeless pieces. As a designer myself, there’s is always leftover material from seasons past because you think they are a good fit at the time but end up being canceled, therefore, it’s leftover fabric with no intentions and being labeled as “last season” so it’s “over” But truthfully, I don’t think that matters anymore, I think you can find the beauty in fabric even after the so called season.

INSPIRATION

This week I am inspired by earthy tones - so warm tans, browns, terracottas, muted colors, and olives. And not just because it’s Earth Week or month but these tones really made me feel down to earth, oddly speaking but they do. I feel they just embody my soul at this moment in my life. So deep right? I love these colors and I do feel like I need calmness and serenity and this is what brings me that feeling right now. What brings you calmness and serenity? I’d love to hear.
